Quality of Life Assessment Tools for Older Adults Within Occupational Therapy Intervention: A Scoping Review
Main Article Content
Abstract
Quality of life (QOL) and well-being refer to the positive state perceived by individuals. Understanding how to
measure QOL for older adults is essential for occupational therapists (OTs). The diversity of assessments presents
challenges for OTs in selecting an appropriate QOL assessment. This scoping review aims to identify the type of
established assessment and how the QOL of older adults has been measured as an outcome of occupational therapy
services. Seven databases (EBSCOhost, SocINDEX, PBSC, MEDLINE, PubMed, Scopus and Cochrane Library)
were searched using occupational therapy-related, QOL-related, assessment-related and older adults-related terms.
Eight articles met the inclusion criteria, and nine standardised assessments with three types of measures: generic,
disease-specific and function-specific were identified. However, occupation domains like instrumental activities of
daily living, work and health management were inadequately covered in the assessments used. There’s a need to
have a QOL assessment focusing on the occupation domain for older adults.
