Lactic Acid as a Biomarker of Occupational Fatigue in Textile Industry Workers
Main Article Content
Abstract
Introduction: The textile industry is a large industry with millions of workers, harboring the hidden danger of occupational fatigue. Work in the textile industry is physically and mentally demanding, with long working hours, non-ideal working conditions and low wages. The impact is not only felt by workers, but also employers and society at large. Materials and methods: This study examined the association between lactic acid and occupational fatigue among 96 textile workers. Data analysis used simple linear regression analysis to test the relationship between lactic acid and work fatigue without controlling for other variables, multiple regression analysis to test the relationship between lactic acid and work fatigue with controlling for other variables, and constructing a regression model for the categorization of work fatigue based on lactic acid. Significance level using α = 0.05, calculation using SPSS software version 27. Results: An analysis of the relationship between lactic acid levels and fatigue in 96 respondents showed a significant positive relationship between lactic acid levels and fatigue (p < 0.001). This relationship remained significant after controlling for control variables. The control variables did not show a significant association with occupational fatigue (p > 0.05). The categories of fatigue based on lactic acid levels and IFRC scores were Low (< 23.7 mg/dL), Moderate (> 23.7 - 34.7 mg/dL), High (> 34.7 - 45.8 mg/dL), and Very High (45.8 mg/dL). Conclusion: The study identified a positive correlation between lactic acid and occupational fatigue, and categorized occupational fatigue based on lactic acid levels.
