Abstract

Accurate anthropometric measurements in clinical settings remain challenging. This review article summarised significant studies on anthropometric equations and explored the design and functionality of measurement tools for adults and older persons. A systematic search on PubMed, SCOPUS, Science Direct, and Google Scholar, restricted to human studies in English, following the PRISMA-ScR (2018) guidelines. 20 studies were included in this review. Knee height shows high reliability for height measurement, while mid-upper arm circumference is the strong parameter in measuring weight. Four studies addressed digital BMI devices but noted limited validation across diverse populations. Various methods can be employed to measure height, weight, and BMI when direct measurement is not feasible. Further research on digital or automated anthropometric measurement among hospitalized adults and older persons is necessary to enhance nutritional assessment and management.
